Sweet Potato Casserole Recipe

This classic Sweet Potato Casserole is the perfect holiday side dish, with its creamy texture, warm spices, and a crunchy, sweet topping that everyone will love. It’s a comforting, crowd-pleasing dish that complements both turkey and ham, making it a must-have for your holiday table.

Ingredients:

For the Sweet Potato Base:

  • 4 medium sweet potatoes (about 2 pounds), peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk (or heavy cream for extra richness)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)

For the Topping:

  • 1/2 cup pecans (chopped)
  • 1/2 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Cook the Sweet Potatoes:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • In a large pot, bring the sweet potatoes to a boil in salted water. Cook for 10-12 minutes or until tender. Drain and mash until smooth.
  2. Make the Sweet Potato Base:
    • In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, milk, melted butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
    • Stir in the beaten eggs until fully combined.
  3. Prepare the Topping:
    • In a small bowl, mix the chopped pecans, mini marshmallows, brown sugar, flour, melted butter, and cinnamon until well combined.
  4. Assemble the Casserole:
    • Transfer the sweet potato mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and smooth the top with a spatula.
    • Evenly sprinkle the topping mixture over the sweet potatoes.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is heated through.
  6. Serve:
    • Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving. This dish is best enjoyed warm and is sure to be a hit at your holiday gatherings!
